How to get a driving licence in Lithuania

Getting a category B driving licence in Lithuania takes several clearly defined steps. You can obtain the licence from age 18 (theory training may start at 17), you must have a declared place of residence in Lithuania and a valid driver's medical certificate.
Step-by-step process
- Medical and first aid certificates. Visit a healthcare institution for the driver's health check (electronic form No. 083-1/a, sent to Regitra automatically) and complete a first aid course. Details on the medical certificate here.
- Theory training. Enrol in a driving school or study independently (externally). Learn the Road Traffic Rules (KET) and practise online tests — RoboKET has the full, up-to-date question bank in English.
- Theory exam at Regitra. Pass the school theory exam (if you studied at a school), then register for the state theory exam at Regitra via vp.regitra.lt. The computer-based test requires at least 80% correct answers. Since 2026 you can take it in Lithuanian, English, Polish, Spanish, French, German or Ukrainian.
- Practical training. A driving school course for category B normally includes at least 30 academic hours of driving. You may also practise with a family member after passing the theory exam.
- Practical exam at Regitra. Since 2026 the practical exam is held in Lithuanian only (interpreters are allowed, including into Ukrainian). A passed theory result is valid for up to 1 year.
- Licence issue. After both exams, order the licence at Regitra — it is usually produced within a few working days (express options available).
