Studying KET theory independently: how it works

Short answer: yes. For A1, A2, A, B1 and B categories you may take the Regitra theory exam after preparing entirely on your own — no driving-school theory course required. You need a medical certificate, a first aid course certificate and registration via vp.regitra.lt (exam fee €10). A driving school remains mandatory for the practical part.
The self-study path, step by step
- Medical certificate — from your GP or an occupational health clinic.
- First aid course — a short certified course.
- Learn the theory — the current KET plus practice tests. Use a platform updated to the 2026 rules with a real exam mode.
- Register and pass the theory exam (30 questions / 30 min / 80%).
- Driving school for practice — mandatory driving lessons and the school exam, then the Regitra practical exam.
What you save — and what you don't lose
Skipping the school theory course typically saves €100–200 and lets you learn at your own pace. You lose nothing formally: the Regitra exam is identical for self-taught candidates. The risk is discipline — without a structured plan many self-learners register too early. Follow the 90% rule: register only when simulations are consistently at 90%+.
