Concepts Used in the Road Traffic Rules

Service transport – vehicles belonging to enterprises, institutions and organizations located in a zone marked by prohibitory road signs, to persons living or working in that zone, or transporting cargo into or collecting cargo from that zone, including passenger taxis or passenger cars used to provide paid passenger transport services by booking that bring passengers into or collect them from such zone.
To give way – a requirement for a road user to stop or not start moving, not to make any maneuver that would force other road users to change their direction or speed.
Bicycle street – a road whose beginning is marked with the road sign "Bicycle street" and whose end is marked with "End of bicycle street".
Traffic accident declaration – as defined in the Republic of Lithuania Law on Compulsory Insurance of Civil Liability of Vehicle Owners. A form filled in and signed at the scene of the accident by the vehicle holders involved, in which the fact of the accident is recorded, the circumstances are described, and a diagram is drawn.
Railway crossing – the intersection of a road with a railway at the same level.
Residential zone – a territory or road whose beginning is marked with the road sign "Residential zone" and whose end is marked with "End of residential zone".
Road – a strip of land or structure surface intended and used for traffic across its entire width, including the carriageway (hereinafter – carriageway), intersections, sidewalks, road shoulders, pedestrian and bicycle paths, and central reservations.
Road shoulder – an element of the road located next to the carriageway (from its edge to the edge of the roadbed), covered with the same surface as the carriageway or a different one, or (and) separated from the carriageway by a horizontal marking line indicating its edge, but not considered a sidewalk, pedestrian path, bicycle path or bicycle lane, or pedestrian and bicycle path.
Overtaking – passing one or more moving vehicles by entering the lane of oncoming traffic.
Accompanying person – a person not younger than 18 years old who accompanies a road user or a group of road users.
School bus – a yellow bus marked with distinctive signs for transporting children, in which children (pupils of educational institutions) are transported. School buses also include buses of other colors used to transport children to or from an educational institution under contracts concluded with carriers and which are marked with distinctive signs for transporting children.
Organized group of cyclists – a group of cyclists participating in a pre-planned event (marathon, competition, excursion, training, and the like) and traveling along a planned route, accompanied by motor vehicle(s) with switched-on orange beacon(s) or police vehicles with switched-on blue and red, or only blue, beacons.
Organized group of pedestrians – a group of pedestrians moving along a road on a planned route together with accompanying persons.
Main road – a road marked with the road signs "Main road", "Junction with a minor road", "Minor road from the right", "Minor road from the left", "Motorway", "Expressway", in relation to a crossing or joining road; a road in relation to another road marked with the road signs "Give way", "Stop", "End of residential zone"; a road with a hard surface (concrete, asphalt, paving) in relation to a road with a loose surface (crushed stone, gravel) or an unpaved road (forest, field and similar road), and a road with a loose surface in relation to an unpaved road. A section with a hard or loose surface located on the minor road just before the intersection does not make it equal in status to the crossing or joining road. There is no main road at regulated intersections.
Lane change – changing lanes without entering the oncoming traffic lane.
Vehicle parking lot – a territory designated or adapted for vehicles to be parked.
Intersection of carriageways – the area bounded by straight lines, imagined by extending the outer edges of the intersecting carriageways, regardless of whether these edges are widened or rounded.
