Here is how speeding penalties work in Lithuania, step by step:
1. Up to 10 km/h over the limit
Exceeding the speed limit by up to ten kilometres per hour results in a warning for the driver.
2. 10–20 km/h over
Exceeding the limit by more than ten but not more than twenty km/h — a fine of €12 to €30.
3. 20–30 km/h over
Exceeding the limit by more than twenty but not more than thirty km/h — a fine of €30 to €90.
4. 30–40 km/h over
Exceeding the limit by more than thirty but not more than forty km/h — a fine of €120 to €170. For novice drivers and drivers of vehicles over 3.5 t or with more than 9 seats: mandatory licence suspension of 3–6 months.
5. 40–50 km/h over
Exceeding the limit by more than forty but not more than fifty km/h — a fine of €170 to €230. For novice drivers and drivers of vehicles over 3.5 t or with more than 9 seats: mandatory licence suspension of 6–12 months.
6. More than 50 km/h over
Exceeding the limit by more than fifty km/h — a fine of €450 to €550, and for people without a driving licence — €450 to €700. Licence suspension of 1–6 months; for novice drivers, drivers of vehicles over 3.5 t or with more than 9 seats, and unlicensed persons — suspension of 12–18 months.
