Light quad, quadricycle and heavy quad motorcycle: the differences

Lithuanian vehicle classification distinguishes three quadricycle types — and each needs a different licence.
Light quadricycle (AM category)
Unladen mass up to 350 kg, design speed up to 45 km/h, engine up to 50 cm³ (petrol) or power up to 4 kW. Essentially a four-wheeled moped. May be driven from age 15 with an AM licence (or any higher category).
Quadricycle (B1 category)
Unladen mass up to 400 kg (550 kg for goods versions), engine power up to 15 kW. Driven from age 16 with a B1 licence (a full B licence also covers it). This class includes most utility ATVs used on public roads.
Heavy quadricycle motorcycle
Power above 15 kW — treated as a motorcycle-class vehicle: requires category B (as a car-registered quad) or the appropriate motorcycle category depending on registration. Minimum age follows that category's rules.
Road rules for all quads
- Quadricycles are prohibited on motorways and expressways.
- Maximum speed outside built-up areas: 70 km/h for quadricycles and heavy quads.
- Helmets are mandatory unless the vehicle has a rigid cab with seat belts.
- Registration, insurance and technical inspection are required for road use.
